self-injury behaviors

Self-Injurious behaviors such as biting, scratching, and head banging can often be difficult to understand and frightening to parents. Children can exhibit these behaviors due to automatic reinforcement and/or as a means to gain access to reinforcement. Our treatment staff focuses on the functional purpose of these behaviors. By determining the function of these behaviors, we will develop a treatment plan to teach alternative and appropriate ways to gain access to the desired reinforcement.
